Description Lace Reed dipping water from the Deschutes (later the location of Pioneer Park), adding to the barrel on his water wagon. Wagon is pulled by two horses. Deschutes River water was delivered to residents in town at twenty-five cents per barrel. Appears to be a pump on the right side of the photo. Water tank on hill and pipelines were installed in downtown Bend in 1905. Both Lucky Balwin and Barney Lewis have been credited with delivering water to Bend residents during those early years before water systems had been installed. Downriver can be seen the Steidl mill.
